Roma, the personification of the city.Welcome to Eutropius.com. This website is the home of an original translation of Eutropius' short Roman history, the "Breviarium Ab Urbe Condita."  I have titled my translation of this work "A Brief History From the Founding of the City."

Eutropius wrote his work around the year 370 A.D. and dedicated it to the emperor Valens. His book briefly touches on almost every significant Roman personality and event, from the city's founding to Valens' reign, late in the empire. It's more than eleven hundred years of Roman history in under one hundred pages.

Victory crowning the emperor. I've tried to build upon it somewhat on this website by hyperlinking the various people and places mentioned in the text to more detailed sources (Eutropius is very brief on most people and events and some readers may want to learn more), by illustrating it with images from genuine ancient coins, and by making it searchable. I have also added a very brief epilogue.

The complete text is available on this site. A print copy is available as well (there is a link in the column on the left). This work is copyrighted, and there are some restrictions on its use.
